The Florida Division of Emergency Management, Division of Community Planning and Department of Transportation in coordination with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council have developed the Statewide Regional Evacuation Study for the Tampa Bay Region. This report updates the region's evacuation population estimates, evacuation clearance times and public shelter demand. The Study was officially released on August 26, 2010, and covers Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties and their municipalities. Click here to view the Study documents, including the 2010 Storm Tide Atlases for each of the four counties in the Tampa Bay Planning Region (listed above).
Recent assessments of catastrophic event planning and preparedness highlight the need for improved and expanded regional collaboration. Around 300 participants representing a wide range of public and private entities were presented with a simulated "worst-case" scenario for the Tampa Bay area at the Catastrophic Planning Summit held January 5 & 6, 2010 in Tampa. Click here for the Project Phoenix website, and to view the video and documents that outline the catastrophic hurricane scenario.
Disaster Housing is the cornerstone of recovery. Retaining a community following disasters is a challenge easily overwhelmed by housing stock in need of restoration and repair. Coping with disasters and enhancing the coping capacity of a community involves planning for and responding to pre- and post-disaster activities. The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, along with the State of Florida and others, is working to improve coordination and collaboration in disaster housing planning within Florida.
