GIS Mapping

Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council has been mapping for various projects concerning the region since 1988. We briefly started using CAD before then and realized that GIS technology was the best way to represent the various depictions we needed for projects and reports. The region includes the counties of Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Manatee.


GIS in the workplace is becoming more commonplace and data is reaching a point where it can be found easily. Most of the GIS work we do for the region involves data produced by other agencies. We create our own data in situations where the project requires it. One example is the Storm Tide Atlas based on the 1992 SLOSH grid used for hurricane evacuation planning.
