FDOT TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT
DESIGN GUIDELINES WORKSHOP
May 29, 2009

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) sponsored a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Design Guidelines Workshop, Start by Getting Transit Smart, on May 29, 2009. The workshop was hosted by Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, a partner in the One Bay regional visioning effort. The draft TOD guidelines were presented by Renaissance Planning Group.
Ramond Chiaramonte, Executive Director of the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), presented an update on the proposed Long Range Transportation Plan. Mr. Chiaramonte described how the MPO's transportation plan incorporates various types of transit and how Hillsborough County and its municipalities might benefit from land uses that incorporate Transit-Oriented Development.
The audience, comprised of planners, engineers, architects, and economic development practitioners, split into groups to comment on the proposed guidelines. FDOT plans to use the comments from the workshop in finalizing their TOD guidelines for use throughout Florida.
